1. The standard we build to
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Where a part of the website falls short, we treat it as a fault to fix rather than a limitation to accept.
2. What you should be able to do
- Use every page, menu, form and control with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator throughout, starting with a link that skips straight to the content.
- Use the website with a screen reader: every page has one main heading and a logical structure, images have text alternatives, form fields have labels, and form errors and confirmations are announced.
- Switch off animation from the foot of any page, or have it switched off automatically if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Choose a light or dark theme.
- Zoom in: every page reflows to a single column down to 320 pixels wide — the equivalent of 400% zoom on a laptop screen — without scrolling sideways or losing content.
- Tap any control comfortably: buttons, form controls and standalone links are at least 24 by 24 pixels. Links inside a sentence follow the size of the text, which the guidelines permit.
3. How we test
Every section of the website is rendered at eight screen sizes, from a small phone to a laptop, and checked automatically for content running off the screen, text below a legible size, controls too small to tap and content hidden behind the page header. Pages are also checked for a single main heading, headings in order, text alternatives on images and labels on every form field, and navigated by keyboard.
4. Known limitations
- The interactive globe on the homepage and the world map are visual. Everything they show is also available as text on the countries, cities and missions pages.
- The website is published in English only at present.
5. Report a barrier
If anything on this website is difficult for you to use, please tell us at [email protected], with the page and what happened. We will reply within one month, and if you need the information in another format in the meantime, we will provide it.
