Proposed for 2029, India

A gathering,
if the work earns it

A proposed Global Sustainability and Circular Economy summit in India: two years of field research, then everyone in one room. It is an intention, not a fixture, and this page is careful to say which.

Nothing here is confirmed. The summit is proposed, not confirmed. Whether it happens at all depends on the 2027 and 2028 research producing enough to be worth convening about, and on partners and funding that are not yet in place. No dates, venue, programme or speakers are fixed, and the target year may move.

Why 2029, and why only a target

Because a conference is only as good as what the people in the room have to say to each other, and right now there is nothing to convene about.

By 2029 there should be: two years of field research across a dozen countries, case studies with sources and limitations, a network of practitioners who have already spoken to each other, and the first results from pilots in India. That would be a reason to travel.

The word is should. The event is the last stage of the programme, not the first, and it is contingent on the stages before it. If the research does not produce enough to justify a summit, the honest thing will be to say so and not hold one. The year may also move: 2029 is a target chosen to follow the research, not a date anyone has booked.

Likely themes

Drawn from the research framework, and provisional. These would change as the field work determines what is actually worth discussing.
  • Municipal systems at scale

What actually works in cities of ten million and above.

  • The informal sector

Formalisation, livelihoods, and the trade-off nobody wants to name.

  • Organic and food waste

The largest fraction by weight in warm climates, and the least solved.

  • Producer responsibility

Three decades of evidence, and what it did and did not deliver.

  • Measurement

Why national recycling figures are not comparable, and what to do about it.

  • Adaptation

Pilot results from India, including the ones that did not work.

Speakers, partners and programme: to be announced

There are no confirmed speakers, no confirmed partners and no programme. Publishing names before they have agreed is how conference websites lose their credibility, and this one cannot afford to. Everything on those pages will say “to be announced” until it genuinely is not.
