1. The short answer
A visitor who reads this website receives no cookies and nothing is stored in their browser. We use no analytics, no advertising and no social media tracking, and the pages load nothing from any other website.
Something is stored only after you do something specific: choose a display setting, change a setting on the Cookie Settings page, or — for the founders — sign in to the administration console.
2. What cookies and browser storage are
A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Local storage is similar, but stays in your browser and is never sent to the website automatically. The law treats them alike: anything a website stores on your device needs your consent unless it is strictly necessary for something you have asked for. This policy uses “cookies” for both.
3. Categories
| Category | Used here | Consent needed | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Yes | No | Needed for a part of the website you have asked to use. They cannot be switched off, and none of them tracks you. |
| Display preferences | Yes | No | Remember a display setting you chose yourself, such as the dark theme or reduced motion. Nothing is stored until you choose, and you can turn this off. |
| External media | Yes | Asked each time | Films hosted on YouTube or Vimeo. Nothing is loaded from either until you press play on a specific video, and the player tells you which service it is before you do. |
| Analytics | No | — | Not used. This website does not measure or record how visitors use it. |
| Advertising and marketing | No | — | Not used. There are no advertising cookies, marketing pixels or retargeting tags. |
| Social media tracking | No | — | Not used. The links to our social media accounts are ordinary links; nothing is loaded from those platforms unless you follow one. |
4. Everything this website stores
| Name | Type | Category | Set by | Purpose | Kept for | How to remove it |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
cj_admin | Cookie | Strictly necessary | Circular Journey (first party) | Keeps a founder signed in to the administration console. Set only when an administrator signs in; never set for visitors. | 8 hours, or until signing out | Removed on signing out, or when it expires. |
cj-consent | Local storage | Strictly necessary | Circular Journey (first party) | Remembers the choices you make in Cookie Settings, so they are respected on your next visit. | Until you clear it | Use "Clear everything" in Cookie Settings, or clear site data in your browser. |
cj-theme | Local storage | Display preferences | Circular Journey (first party) | Remembers whether you chose the light or the dark theme. Stored only after you choose one. | Until you clear it | Turn off display preferences in Cookie Settings, or clear site data in your browser. |
cj-motion | Local storage | Display preferences | Circular Journey (first party) | Remembers whether you asked for full or reduced animation. Stored only after you choose one. | Until you clear it | Turn off display preferences in Cookie Settings, or clear site data in your browser. |
None of these identifies you, is shared with anyone, or is used to follow you around this website or any other.
5. Films hosted on YouTube or Vimeo
Some Circular Journey films may be hosted on YouTube or Vimeo. The player on this website loads nothing from either until you press play on a specific film, and names the service on the play button before you do. Pressing play is your choice to load it; nothing is loaded in the background.
When a film does play, the service that hosts it may set its own cookies and record what it records, under its own policy. To limit that, YouTube films play in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode and Vimeo films with Vimeo’s do-not-track setting.
- YouTube (Google) — privacy policy
- Vimeo — privacy policy
7. How to control and remove them
Open Cookie Settings, linked from the foot of every page. It shows what this website has stored on your device right now, lets you stop it remembering display preferences, and removes everything with one button.
You can also delete or block cookies and local storage in your browser’s settings. Blocking them does not stop this website working; a display preference you choose simply will not be remembered next time.
8. How we keep this list accurate
We check this list by loading every section of the website in a fresh browser as a new visitor, recording every cookie, every item of browser storage and the address of every request the pages make, and comparing the result with this page. The list on this page is the same list the website’s own Cookie Settings read, so it cannot describe something the website does not do. If you find anything we have missed, tell us at [email protected].
